Detail

Magnetic couplings are non-contact couplings that use magnetism to transmit torque, and are mainly used to connect two shafts to realize rotational transmission, which has a wide range of applications in many industrial fields.

Magnetic coupling transmits force and motion through the magnetic action between permanent magnets without the need for direct mechanical contact, this design allows it to work without physical contact, thus reducing wear and vibration caused by shaft misalignment. Specifics are as follows:

1. Construction and principle:
Magnetic coupling consists of three parts: outer magnetic wheel, inner magnetic wheel and isolation sleeve. The outer and inner magnetic wheels are equipped with a number of permanent magnets, which are arranged in a certain polarity to form a stable magnetic field. The isolation sleeve is generally made of non-magnetic materials (such as stainless steel, aluminum or plastic), which can effectively isolate the direct contact between the outer and inner magnetic wheels, but does not affect the transmission of the magnetic field.
The operating principle is based on the interaction of magnetic field forces. The magnetic field generated by the input section is transferred to the output section through the magnetic material, causing the output section to generate rotational motion. By changing the strength of the input magnetic field, the amount of output torque can be controlled.

2. Classification and materials:
Magnetic drive coupling is divided into plane magnetic drive coupling and coaxial magnetic drive coupling. In the former, the magnet is magnetized axially and the coupling poles are configured axially; in the latter, the magnet is magnetized radially and the coupling poles are configured radially.
The magnetic materials used mainly include ferrite, NdFeB and SmCo. NdFeB is widely used in magnetic drive couplings especially because of its excellent magnetic properties and low cost.

3.Application areas and advantages:
Magnetic couplings are widely used in applications that require isolation of the driving and driven parts, such as in chemical equipment, electric power equipment, and high-end equipment such as automobiles and airplanes. For example, magnetic pumps combined with pumps are widely used in petrochemical and pharmaceutical fields, effectively preventing waste and pollution caused by leakage.
Advantages include no mechanical contact and thus less wear and tear, low maintenance requirements, high reliability, leak-free transmission, and adaptability to different working environments.

Overall, magnetic couplings play an important role in modern industry with their advanced magnetic transfer principle and diverse range of applications. Their design and functionality not only enhance the operational efficiency and safety of machinery and equipment, but also significantly reduce the cost of operation and maintenance.
